It's going to be a scorcher this year! But don't sweat, these quick tips will help maximize the efficiency of your air conditioning unit.
Were you raised in a barn?!
I heard this often growing up after leaving the fridge open for too long or forgetting to shut the front door? "We aren't cooling the whole city! Close that door!" Obviously, the first step to keeping it cool is to keep it in! Make sure windows and doors are shut at all times.
Leaks aren't just for water!
Air leaks can be a huge problem for efficiency. Worn weather stripping from around doors and windows could allow air to escape. Have the attic, under doors, around windows, etc. checked for leaks.
Letting money slip through your filters!
I can't reiterate enough how important it is to maintain clean filters for your HVAC unit. Not only will it help it run more efficiently, it keeps your air cleaner as well. A dirty filter will reduce airflow and in turn make your system work even harder shaving off years of operation.
Use Those Ceiling Fans
All cool in the shade!
Shading your outdoor condenser unit is a great way to increase the efficiency of your unit, by helping cool the air before it reaches the system. Your unit won't work as hard to bring you that sweet breeze of relief, and it will help lower cooling costs as well.
Flowers are pretty and all but ...
Maximize your airflow around the air condenser by keeping it free of plants, flowers, vines, and other debris that would obstruct air flow. You should have at least 2 feet away from each side of your unit to allow air to freely flow. Maximize airflow, maximum efficiency!
